Having immigrated from Scotland to Los Angeles in pursuit of a music career, John has sustained a professional musician’s livelihood as a bagpiper, guitarist, singer and songwriter for over three decades and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in “Music and the Environment” through The University of Highland and Islands in Scotland online. In this program, he is learning more about DEI as it presents in cultures all over the world.

As a songwriter/composer, John collaborated with New Age artist, Juliet Lyons, in 2021 and landed two number one spots on iTunes and Amazon charts in 2021 from the EP, Nova: An Acoustic Journey. The album has songs in rotation on Sirius XM’s Spa Channel. John’s compositions have also been performed by The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra with the LA Scots Pipe Band.

Current collaborations include Moonshine Poetry, a Dark Americana band with Paula McMath.

John has released four albums with his Celtic Rock band and his music has been heard on over 100 radio stations all over the world including KCRW and BBC Radio Scotland.

John’s music is signed with Universal Music Publishing, Disney, Fox, 5 Alarm, Mpath, Imaginary Friends, Megatrax, Black Toast Music and Assemble Sound. John’s music has been placed on Modern Family, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Fresh Off the Boat. His latest music will appear on the upcoming Netflix comedy film, Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story, directed by Jerry Seinfeld.

Session work playing bagpipes, guitar, whistles, vocals in a variety of genres including the score for animated sitcom, The Great North, gospel artist, Kurt Carr’s album, an IBM commercial featuring multiple Grammy winning artist, Timbaland and Kia commercial featuring Grammy nominated artist, Nathaniel Rateliff, and record labels for Dreamworks and Warner Brothers artists.

At Coachella, John performed on guitar and bagpipes with Dreamworks artist, Forest Through the Trees. Other live performance highlights included performing with Korn at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas Show at the Shrine, Nancy Wilson, members of Guns N’ Roses, The Chieftains, Michael Flatley, Charlotte Church, Jose Hevia, The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and The Tonight Show Band.

John has also appeared or performed in numerous movies, TV shows and stage comedies including Oscar-winning Best Picture, Million Dollar Baby, Battleship, Austin Powers 2, Primary Colors, The Tonight Show, The West Wing, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Providence, and What About Dick?.
